Considerations

Thank you for your interest in the Guelph-Waterloo Centre for Graduate Work in Chemistry and Biochemistry.  For those of you who are interested in pursuing graduate studies in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field, the following brief outline of the usual application procedure for graduate school may be useful.

Area of Interest

The Centre offers a strong program of graduate studies in all of the traditional areas of chemistry (analytical, biological/biological, inorganic, nanoscience, organic, physical and theoretical).  In addition, considerable opportunities exist for research of an interdisciplinary nature in areas such as organometallic and polymer chemistry and chemical physics.

Consult a Professor

It is always recommended that applicants contact faculty members they are interested in working with, but securing a supervisor prior to applying is not required. Please note though that some will review your information prior to your application; others will only wait until after the application package is complete.

Procedures

We admit students into all three terms with start dates in January, May and September.  The application deadlines are: February 1st for Fall admission; June 1st for Winter admission, and October 1st for Spring admission.

For Domestic students (Canadians and Permanent Residents), applications will be considered after these deadlines, although this may impact your eligibility for major awards and scholarships in your first year.

Please note that your application must be complete and all supporting documentation uploaded by the application deadline date.

We strongly recommend that international students apply at least nine months prior to the start of the term, to allow sufficient time to arrange for a study permit.
