Graduate Degree Programs Offered

The Centre is housed in the Chemistry departments at the Universities of Guelph and Waterloo, two of Canada’s highest rated Universities. A diverse team of world-class faculty from both Departments provide research opportunities in a myriad of chemical and biochemical research areas.  GWC2 offers programs leading to the MSc and PhD degrees. The MSc degree can be pursued through a Regular or Co-operative Thesis option, or through full- or part-time Course Work. The PhD degree can be pursued through the Regular Thesis Option and, for exceptional students, directly from a BSc or by direct transfer to the PhD from the MSc program.

What does a “joint” program mean?

GWC2 draws on a diverse team of world-class faculty from two of Canada’s highest rated Universities, the University of Guelph and the University of Waterloo. Both of these Departments provide research opportunities in a myriad of chemical and biochemical research areas. Students are registered at the specific University affiliated with their research advisor/supervisor, but have access to a wide range of faculty through the use of link rooms (video-conferencing facilities) for course lectures, presentations, tutorials, seminars, advisory committee meetings and oral comprehensive examinations. It is also requested that advisory and examination committees are made up of members from both Universities. The result of this ‘jointness’ is to allow the student to draw on a broad range of expertise and research opportunities.
